It's been a stellar year of the North American cannabis industry. In October, Canada broke down a major barrier by becoming the first industrialized country worldwide to legalize recreational cannabis. In doing so, it brought legitimacy to a previously taboo industry and opened the door to an estimated $5 billion in added annual sales by the early part of the next decade.

In the U.S., two new states (Utah and Missouri) gave the green light to medical marijuana, upping the number of states to have legalized in some capacity to 32. Meanwhile, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its very first cannabis-derived drug in June.

'Misleading' Colgate toothpaste TV advert banned by watchdog - BBC News

A Colgate toothpaste TV advert which promised to "instantly" repair teeth has been banned for being "misleading".

Six complaints about the advert for Colgate Sensitive Repair and Prevent toothpaste were upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority.

Parent company Colgate-Palmolive (UK) said the product provided a "reparative layer on the enamel surface" when used.

Sleep: Too much is linked to a greater chance of disease or death - CNN

The recommended amount of sleep for adults is six to eight hours a night. Sleeping more than those hours is associated with an increased risk of death and cardiovascular diseases, says a global study published Wednesday in the European Heart Journal.

Looking at data from 21 countries, across seven regions, the research team found that people sleeping more than the recommended upper limit of eight hours increased their risk of major cardiovascular events, like stroke or heart failure, as well as death by up to 41%.
